For Gena Karpf, the founder of SWEETNESS The Patisserie, dessert holds a place of reverence. In Omaha, Nebraska, USA, Gena grew up in the kitchen of a foodie family. At the age of four she baked her first cake and by her teens, with guidance from her parents and grandparents, she had become skilled at crafting pies, cakes and cookies.
In 2005, Gena indulged her passion for beautiful food by attending a short course studying patisserie at Ecole des Trois Pont in Roanne, Loire River Valley, France. A year later Gena realized her passion for all things sweet by creating SWEETNESS The Patisserie. By the end of 2007, Gena had graduated from Le Cordon Bleu in Sydney, Australia, with a Diplome de Patisserie (Hons), and the process was complete. As a member of Slow Food International, Gena shares her philosophy of creating hand made delicacies on a small scale for everyone to share. Gena lives in Sydney with her husband Kris who shares her creative flair, but as a pianist and composer.
